An innovative web platform for a global leader in temporary works solutions

Mabey is a global leader in temporary works solutions and equipment with over 60 years’ experience in their field.

In July 2020 we launched a new web platform for the UK division, targeting the construction and engineering industry. The aim of the project was to bring their web presence up to date with a new brand and position them as a provider of high end tech engineering solutions.

We chose Quba as partners for our new website as we needed a digital agency that were not just technically capable, but combined creativity with a strategic approach. Their early investment in development workshops enabled a strong creative execution and UX. The new site is now delivering a vastly improved brand experience and results.

Moving the brand and the online presence forward

With the UK business devolving into an independent organisation they needed a new web platform that maintained reputation and authority of the brand but brought the proposition up to date with a new brand look and feel.

They also wanted to move away from being seen as a provider of equipment and focus on their end-to-end high-tech engineering solutions offering.

Discover & understand

The project started with a series of Discovery workshops designed to understand the requirements of the business, who the users were and what were their needs. This insight ensured we knew how best to customise the new web platform to fit their exact needs.

We held interviews with their Chief Engineer and Business Development Director to understand business workflow and customer processes, in order to address the role the web platform played in customer acquisition.

Understanding the audience

Key to the success of the project was understanding the audience. We identified three main user types: Procurement directors and departments, works designers & engineers and site managers.

We identified that key pain points were generally around lack of knowledge or confidence in supplier capability. Our main objectives focused on better organisation of information, easier points of contact and gated content where there is value, allowing Mabey to capture valuable prospect data.

Designing a solutions focused approach

Having established the need for an approach more focused on solutions, we developed a design and navigation structure which demonstrated the breadth of Mabey’s experience.

Evidencing this using case studies and statistics through the new structure and page design, we were able to champion their design & digital engineering expertise. In addition to this we restructured the organisation of the product category information, making it easier to find and displayed it in a clearer way.

Delivering Mabey’s web platform

Based on the knowledge gained from the discovery sessions we delivered a web platform that focused on showcasing the extent of Mabey’s experience. The platform delivers extensive libraries of resources, from user guides and technical specifications for equipment, through to pre-engineered standard solutions documentation.

For the latter a sub-brand, MyConstruct, was created where a decision-tree style set of questions are asked of the user to determine their requirements and present the most relevant resources.

This is prefaced with a data capture form so that Mabey know who the thousands of people are who access their resources on a monthly basis, and can contact them later to follow-up.
