In a significant advancement for digital innovation in the aviation sector, Quba has been awarded a contract to design and implement a state-of-the-art website for Birmingham Airport. This development comes as part of the airport's strategic plan to increase its passenger numbers from the current 12 million to 18 million by 2033, capitalizing on the forthcoming HS2 link that will connect London to Birmingham in just over half an hour.

The project has hit the ground running with a comprehensive discovery session involving Birmingham Airport’s key stakeholders. This phase marks the beginning of an endeavour to tackle one of the major challenges facing airports today: revenue growth. The impending introduction of new airport security screening requirements by the UK government, set for 1st June 2024, requires innovative strategies to sustain revenue streams from food and duty-free sales amidst reduced passenger dwell time in the airport. Quba's solution: the development of an in-airport app style web experience to maintain customer engagement and boost sales.

Simon Evans, Head of Corporate Affairs & Marketing at Birmingham Airport, expressed confidence in Quba’s capabilities: “We’ve appointed Quba to build us a new website after they demonstrated strengths in all the necessary disciplines, not least creativity, technical nous and customer experience.”

Birmingham Airport's previous content platform was outdated and unable to meet the evolving demands of a modern airport, requiring a technological overhaul. Quba's strategic technical review revealed the need for an innovative solution – a headless content management platform. This modern approach offers several benefits: it provides greater autonomy and flexibility for Birmingham Airport's marketing team, significantly enhances the customer experience, and lays the foundation for future omnichannel content delivery to a variety of smart devices.

The launch of Birmingham Airport's new web platform is scheduled for delivery in Q2 2024. This project is poised to set a new benchmark in airport digital services, enhancing the customer journey and showcasing Birmingham Airport's commitment to innovation and excellence in passenger service.
