For the Society of Experimental Biology (SEB) their website is the lynchpin of their organisation. It is the place where they sign up new members, take bookings for events and advertise funding opportunities. We helped them to give it a facelift and dramatically improve the digital service experience for members.

The business

A collborative approach delivers immediate improvements


The Society of Experimental Biology facilitates collaborative working and networking between scientific experts. Feedback from their members identified issues in the current website experience and prompted them to embark on a rebrand exercise. Together with their branding and CRM suppliers Quba helped to build a responsive website which delivered immediate improvements in online performance.

What we did

Design / Technical


The first challenge was to identify a technical approach. SEB’s CMS Sitefinity was out of date. Moving to a newer version of Sitefinity was made trickier by the integration we needed to support with Aptify CRM. We worked with SEB’s CRM supplier to identify what work was required on either side to ensure compatibility between the two products.
With the technology hurdle out of the way we were able to concentrate on user experience. With a number of improvements identified by User Testing we changed the flow of most user journeys substantially. This validation paid off with the bounce rate dropping and conversions increasing immediately after launch.

The outcome


The new website has dramatically improved engagement with members and non-members on a number of levels. This has been achieved by introducing a number of new features:

  • Personalised information and content delivered via ‘MySEB’ members login which integrates with their CRM content
  • Management of membership status and renewing membership
  • Online sign up of new members
  • Ecommerce bookshop has improved sales of all publications
  • Improved attendance at events
  • Better integration with their email platform
  • Improved take up of funding and grant applications

Quba helped us to get more out of Sitefinity and to get a better integration with our CRM system. The new website is visually much more appealing than our old one and has helped us to significantly increase our engagement with our membership and the scientific community.
